233HProject
Group Project
The group project for this term will address the question: "How does chemistry affect meeting the world's energy needs?"
You and your team members must do the following:
- Identify a subarea that will be appropriate for a 20-minute presentation. You must turn in your specific topic for approval and comment by Dr. Gable by Friday, May 5.
- For your subtopic, identify the problem: how energy is (or will be) used, how chemistry is involved in producing, conveying or utilizing that energy.
- You must consider consequences (economic, environmental, cultural) of obtaining and manufacturing necessary materials.
- Compose a written report of at least 4 but no more than 10 pages, with appropriate references (original publication, not Wikipedia). It should be presented in 10.5 to 12 point type, double spaced. I can accept it as a PDF or Word document via email. You should include an introduction to briefly describe the problem, then a descriptive discussion, conclusion and bibliography. You may use figures, photos or other media provided you include proper citation of the source.
- Prepare and present 20-minute presentation using Powerpoint, Web or other multimedia resources. You will present this during the lab period during Week 10 (June 6 or June 8). You may choose how the group makes the presentation, but I encourage you to provide a role for each group member.
Grading will be based on a combination of the intellectual rigor and originality of your ideas, and the technical competence of your presentation (writing, grammar, appearance). 100 points are possible. You are encouraged to consult with Dr. Gable on your progress on a regular basis.
